On Sunday, August 9, 2026, the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology organised a timely and insightful seminar on "Exploring Coastal Environment through Integrated Field and Laboratory Luminescence Dating Approaches" in collaboration with the AIUB Research and Development Club and the AIUB Environment Club.
The event featured two distinguished speakers, Dr. M. Shahidul Islam, Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Dhaka, and Dr. Aayush Srivastava, Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of St Andrews, United Kingdom. The seminar was graced by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB, as the Special Guest.
The seminar was held from 10 to 11 AM, starting with the welcome speech from the head of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, Dr Mohammad Nazir Hossain. Dr. M. Shahidul Islam shared his expertise in coastal geography, physical oceanography, climate change, sea-level change, the Blue Economy, marine environments, and disaster management, with particular emphasis on the coastal regions of Bangladesh. Dr. Aayush Srivastava discussed his research expertise in coastal geomorphology, climate change, environmental change, human-environment interactions, and Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating, a technique used to determine the age of sediments and reconstruct past landscapes and environmental change.

The seminar served as a valuable platform for academic exchange, interdisciplinary learning, and the application of cutting-edge research for students, faculty, and researchers, bringing together expertise in biochemistry, environmental science, geology, coastal research, and geochronology.
